Sampling of Felony Jury Trials in South Florida only:

1.         State v. Joyce Stout---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 85-8141-CF10A.   Jury trial (4 days).  Capital 1st Degree Murder Case:  Woman charged with first-degree murder of her husband with a shotgun.  State requested the death penalty.  Verdict-not guilty of 1st degree murder or Death Penalty; guilty of second-degree murder, a lesser-included offense.  Served 7 years FSP.  Judge Coker; 1986.

2.         State v. Alan Silverman---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 90-18281-CF10.  Jury trial (8 days).  1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence:  Man charged with 6 counts of burglary of occupied dwelling at night with intent to commit batteries and grand theft.  Verdict-not guilty on all felony charges.  Judge Goldstein; 1991.

3.         State v. Alexander Jones---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 95-11650-CF10A.  Jury trial (1 day).  2nd Degree Felony:  Man charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver/sell.  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Goldstein; 1996.

4.         State v. Carl Chestnut---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 96-14471-CF10A.  Jury trial (3 days).  2nd Degree Felony:  Man charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon by breaking into a house and beating a man with a baseball bat. Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Schapiro; 1998.

5.         State v. Derrick McKensie---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 97-4866-CF10A.  Jury trial (3 days).  3rd Degree Felony:  Man charged with possession of crack cocaine.   Directed verdict of acquittal at the close of all of the evidence.  Judge Schapiro; 1998.

6.         State v. Michael Stillwell---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 99-1027-CF10A.  Jury trial  (3 days).  3rd Degree Felony:  Man charged possession of cocaine.  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Kaplan; 1999.

7.         State v. Von Sutton---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 98-21237-CF10A.  Repeat Offender Court [ROC] Jury trial (3 days).   2nd Degree Felony:  Man charged with aggravated battery with a firearm by breaking into a house and shooting the victim several times in the abdomen.   Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Cohn; 1999.

8.         State v. Keith Napsky---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 99-16502-CF10A. Jury trial (4 days).  2nd Degree Felony:  Man charged with two counts of indecent (sexual) assault on 13-year-old girl.  Verdict-not guilty on both counts.  Judge Rothschild; 2000.

9.         State v. Fabian McCloud---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 00-1450-CF10A. Jury trial (3 days).  1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence:  Man charged with attempted murder with a firearm in a street shooting of unarmed victim.  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Horowitz; 2000.

10.       State v. Willie Wallace---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 00-8215-CF10B.  Jury trial (3 days).  2nd Degree Felony:  Man charged with one count of delivery of cocaine and one count of resisting with violence.  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Schapiro; 2000.

11.       State v. Radcliffe Barnett---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 00-16727-CF10A.  Jury trial (3 days).   1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence as Prison Release Re-offender:  Man charged with two counts of burglary of dwelling with intent to commit battery, two counts of battery LEO, one count tampering with evidence, one count resisting with violence, one count of resisting without violence, and one count of possession of cannabis.  Verdict-not guilty on all felony counts as charged in the Information.  Judge Lazarus; 2001.

12.       State v. Essie Mae Parker---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 99-13051-CF10A.  Jury trial (3 days).   3rd Degree Felony:  Woman charged with insurance fraud.  Verdict-directed verdict of acquittal at the close of State's case.  Judge Horowitz; 2001.

13.       State v. Tyvonn Scott---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 99-20415-CF10A. Jury trial (4 days).  1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence as Prison Release Re-offender:  Man charged with one count of robbery with a firearm.  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Schapiro; 2001.

14.       State v. Delroy Wright---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 01-7703-CF10A. Jury trial (3 days). 2nd Degree Felony:  Man charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on his girl friend. Verdict-not guilty. Judge Cohen; 2002.

15.       State v. Rocheda Fairchild---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 01-18215-CF10A.  Jury trial (2 days).  3rd Degree Felony:  Woman charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Imperato; 2003.

16.       State v. Miguel Castro---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 01-14646-CF10A. Jury trial (3 days).  2nd Degree Felony:  Two men charged with aggravated battery beating victim with a tire iron.  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Agner; 2003.

17.       State v. Kenneth Henry---Broward Circuit Court Case No.  01-5897-CF10A.  Jury Trial (4 days).  3rd Degree Felony:  Charged with stealing $15,000 from employer's safe on work site.  Verdict-not-guilty.  Judge Fogan; 2003.

18.       State v. Terrance Stanley---Broward Circuit Court Case No. 03-5434-CF10A.  Jury Trial (5 days).  1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence:  Charged    with one count of Armed Burglary with Battery and one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.  Verdict-Hung Jury [mistrial].  Judge Robert Newman; 2004.

19.       State v. Terrance Stanley--Broward Circuit Court Case No. 03-5434-CF10A. Re- trial from previous hung jury. Jury Trial (4 days).  1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence:  Charged with one count of Armed Burglary with Battery and one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Verdict-not guilty. Judge Peter Weinstein; 2005.

20.       State v. Harris Vereen-Miami-Dade Circuit Court Case No. F00-24166A. Jury Trial (1 day). 1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence:  Charged with one count of Attempted Felony Murder, one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder on a Law Enforcement Officer, one count of Robbery, Car Jacking, one count of Strong Arm Robbery, and one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries.  At beginning of Jury Trial voir dire, the State announced a nolle prosequi [dismissal]. Judge Jacqueline Hogan Scola; 2006.

21.       State v. Rory Durden-Miami-Dade Circuit Court Case No. F02-35217B. Jury Trial (6 days). 1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence:  Charged with high profile police shooting. One count of Attempted First Degree Murder on a Law Enforcement Officer, one count of Attempted Felony Murder, and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Verdict-not guilty on all counts. Judge Jacqueline Hogan Scola; 2006.

22.       State v. Michael Grier--Broward Circuit Court Case No. 06-5702-CF10A. Jury Trial (2 days). Life Felony:  Charged with one count of Car Jacking with a Firearm. Verdict-not guilty. Judge Mila Rodriguez-Powell; 2007.

23.       State v. Raymond Arias-- Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Case No. F07-3006. Jury Trial (2 days). 1st Degree Felony, punishable by life sentence:  Charged with one count of Burglary with Battery; one count of Robbery with a Firearm; and one count of Aggravated Battery on the Elderly. Verdict-Declared Mistrial [hung jury].  Judge Diane Ward; 2007. Note: On day of re-trial, the State announced nolle prosequi [dismissal].

24.       State v. Darnen Watson--Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Case No. F06-13467. 2nd Degree Murder:  Charged with the high profile murder of inner city community activist DJ Albert "Uncle Al" Moss.  Charged with one count of Murder with a Firearm.  At beginning of Jury Trial voir dire, the State announced a nolle prosequi [dismissal]. Judge William Thomas; 2007.

25.       State v. Tajhon Wilson-- Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Case No. F05-31332. Jury Trial (2 days). 2nd Degree Felony:  Charged with one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon [severed from the Grand Theft Auto and Resisting without Violence charges].  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Peter Lopez; 2008.

26.       State v. Raphael Charistil--Broward County Circuit Court Case No. 09-5699-CF10A. Jury Trial (4 days). 1st Degree Felony, Punishable by Life: Charged with one count of Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Battery.  Verdict-not guilty on count I.  Judge Paul Backman; 2009.

26.       State v. G. M.--Broward County Court Case No. 09-15351-MM10A.  Jury Trial (3 days).  Misdemeanor: Charged with Improper Exhibition of a Firearm [as a Law Enforcement Officer].  Verdict-not guilty.  Judge Gary Cowart; 2009.

27.       State v. Emmanuel Ware--Miami-Dade County “ROC” Court Case No. F08-7097.  Jury Trial (4 days).  1st Degree Felony, PBL.   Charged with one count of “Attempted Felony Murder with a Firearm and Mask,” two counts of  “Robbery with Firearm and Mask,” one count of Burglary with Battery with Firearm and Mask,” and one count of “Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon.”  Verdict-Not Guilty on all five counts. Judge Peter Lopez; 2010.

28.       State . Rossaine Baker--Broward County Circuit Court Case No. 08-16648-CF10A. Jury Trial (4 days). 1st Degree Felony, PBL.  Charged with one count of "Armed Burglary of a Conveyance" and one count of "Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon."  Verdict-Not Guilty on both counts.  Judge Matthew Destry, 2010.

29.       State . Rossaine Baker--Broward County Circuit Court Case No. 09-20305-CF10B. Jury Trial (11 days). Life Felony.  Charged with one count of "Armed Kidnapping" and one count of "Attempted First Degree (Premeditated Murder."  Verdict-Not Guilty on both counts.  Judge Matthew Destry, 2011.

Post-Conviction Proceedings on Death Row inmates:
[On these cases, the defendants had other attorneys representing them at the initital trial and appeal.  They were convicted and sentenced to Death.  Thereafter, on postconviction Ira Still, Esquire was appointed by the court to handle capital collateral appeals process.]
 
1.         State v. Robert Consalvo, Broward Circuit Court Case No. 91-19140-CF10A.  As a member of the Registry of Capital Collateral Private Attorneys approved to represent indigent death-row inmates in post-conviction litigation, appointed by Chief Judge Dale Ross for all proceedings at trial and appeal from 1998 to present.  Case went to final evidentiary hearing in the trial court; appeal and oral argument in the Florida Supreme Court; certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court; currently on appeal on DNA issues in the Florida Supreme Court; and litigation in the federal courts. 

2.         State v. Omar Blanco, Broward Circuit Court Case No. 82-453-CF10A.  As a member of the Registry of Capital Collateral Private Attorneys approved to represent indigent death-row inmates in post-conviction litigation, appointed by Judge Goldstein for all proceedings at trial and appeal from 1999 to 2008.  Case determined in the trial court; appeal and oral argument in the Florida Supreme Court; certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court; and is currently in litigation in the federal courts.
